About this live satellite imagery map
NASA's Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) publishes true-color imagery from the MODIS sensor on the Terra satellite every day. This map renders today's imagery as the map layer itself: clouds, storms, dust, sea ice, and snow as they appeared during today's overpasses.
Because MODIS resolves to roughly 250 meters per pixel, this sits between weather satellites (coarse, frequent) and commercial imaging (sharp, rare): perfect for watching weather systems, wildfires' smoke plumes, and polar ice on a daily cadence.
Data is fetched in your browser through our own cached endpoint and rendered locally — no account, no install, nothing you do here is uploaded anywhere. Live feeds are approximate and must not be used for navigation or safety-of-life decisions.
