Live Lightning Map

Real-time lightning strikes detected by the community-run Blitzortung network, refreshed every minute as storms move.

About this live lightning map

Each marker is a lightning stroke detected by the Blitzortung.org volunteer receiver network, which triangulates radio emissions from strikes. Clusters trace thunderstorm cells as they develop and travel.

Detection density depends on receiver coverage — dense across Europe and North America, thinner elsewhere. The feed refreshes every minute, making this one of the most real-time maps on the site.

Data is fetched in your browser through our own cached endpoint and rendered locally — no account, no install, nothing you do here is uploaded anywhere. Live feeds are approximate and must not be used for navigation or safety-of-life decisions.
