About this dataset
DTU and World Bank global wind resource maps at 250m-1km resolution with wind speed, power density, and capacity factors.
The Global Wind Atlas from DTU Wind Energy and the World Bank provides high-resolution global wind resource maps at 250m and 1km resolution. It includes mean wind speed, wind power density, Weibull parameters, and capacity factor estimates for multiple turbine hub heights (50m, 100m, 150m, 200m), derived from mesoscale atmospheric modeling.
How to download
- 1 Open the Global Wind Atlas download page.
- 2 Select the hub height (50m, 100m, 150m, 200m).
- 3 Choose the wind variable (speed, power density, Weibull).
- 4 Download the GeoTIFF and open in GIS for wind farm site analysis.
FAQ
What hub heights are available?
The Global Wind Atlas provides wind resource maps at 50m, 100m, 150m, and 200m hub heights above ground level.
Is offshore wind data included?
Yes. The Global Wind Atlas includes offshore wind resource data for coastal zones and open ocean areas where wind measurements are modeled.
