Remove Duplicate KML Points

Merged exports contain the same survey location more than once, making counts and map markers misleading.

How to use this tool

  1. 1. Choose the KML containing repeated points.
  2. 2. Run deduplication and review the removed count.
  3. 3. Inspect the first retained placemark attributes before downloading.

Limits and checks before sharing

  • Exact coordinates only. Near duplicates, lines, polygons and points inside MultiGeometry are not deduplicated.
  • Missing altitude is treated as zero. Different altitudes and altitude reference modes remain distinct; unrecognized modes are left for review.
  • Attributes are not merged. The first point wins even when names or other fields differ.

If processing fails, check the file extension and source contents. Use a smaller batch if memory runs low. The original files are never overwritten. Inspect known locations and attributes before sharing a result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove points within a distance tolerance?

This tool only removes exact coordinate duplicates. It does not cluster nearby points or infer whether nearby records describe the same place.

Which attributes are kept?

The entire first standalone point placemark is retained. Later duplicates are removed along with their attributes; keep the source for auditing.

Are my files uploaded, and do I need an account?

No. This file operation runs in your browser and needs no account or payment. The page and processing libraries need an initial network load. Opening a map preview can request external map tiles; linked resources in your original KML are not fetched or embedded by this tool.
