About this dataset

Global malaria endemicity and vector distribution maps from the Malaria Atlas Project at 5km resolution.

The Malaria Atlas Project (MAP) provides global spatial data on malaria transmission, vector distribution, and intervention coverage. Key datasets include Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax endemicity maps at 5km resolution, Anopheles mosquito vector distribution, insecticide resistance, and intervention coverage (bed nets, treatment access) from 2000 to present.

How to download

  1. 1 Open the MAP data explorer.
  2. 2 Select the data type (parasite rate, vector, intervention).
  3. 3 Choose the time period and geographic extent.
  4. 4 Download the GeoTIFF or shapefile for GIS analysis.

FAQ

What malaria species are covered?

MAP provides maps for both Plasmodium falciparum (the deadliest malaria species) and Plasmodium vivax (the most geographically widespread).

How can I use this data in GIS?

MAP data products are available as GeoTIFF rasters that can be opened directly in QGIS. Combine with population data and health facility locations for accessibility analysis.
