About this dataset

Global 100m population density grids built from census and satellite data, covering 2000–2020 with annual estimates.

WorldPop provides open high-resolution global population distribution grids at approximately 100m resolution. The datasets integrate census counts, satellite imagery, and land cover data to produce annual population estimates for every country from 2000 to 2020.

How to download

  1. 1 Open the WorldPop portal and select a dataset type (population, age structures, births, etc.).
  2. 2 Choose a country and year for the desired population grid.
  3. 3 Download the GeoTIFF or ASCII raster file.
  4. 4 Open the raster in GeoDataViewer or QGIS for inspection and analysis.
