About this dataset
Global soil property predictions at 250m resolution including organic carbon, pH, texture, and depth from ISRIC World Soil Information.
SoilGrids is a global soil property mapping system produced by ISRIC World Soil Information. It provides predictions for major soil properties at 250m resolution and six standard depth intervals, derived from machine learning models trained on over 230,000 soil profiles and 400+ environmental covariates.
How to download
- 1 Open the SoilGrids portal at soilgrids.org.
- 2 Navigate the map to your area of interest or select global coverage.
- 3 Choose a soil property (organic carbon, pH, clay, sand, etc.) and depth interval.
- 4 Download the GeoTIFF tiles and inspect in GeoDataViewer or QGIS.
FAQ
What soil properties are available in SoilGrids?
SoilGrids provides predictions for organic carbon, pH, clay/sand/silt content, bulk density, coarse fragments, cation exchange capacity, and soil organic nitrogen at six standard depths (0-5, 5-15, 15-30, 30-60, 60-100, 100-200 cm).
How accurate is SoilGrids data?
SoilGrids predictions show moderate accuracy with typical R² values of 0.3–0.6 depending on the property. It is best used for regional to global studies; local surveys should be used for site-specific decisions.
