Multi-level administrative boundaries extracted from OpenStreetMap, available as Shapefile and GeoJSON from level 0 (countries) to level 12.

OSM Admin Boundaries from osm-boundaries.com provides hierarchical administrative boundary polygons extracted from OpenStreetMap data. Boundaries range from level 0 (countries) through level 12 (small neighborhoods and suburbs), offering far deeper administrative granularity than most global boundary products. How do OSM Boundaries compare to GADM?

OSM Boundaries are derived directly from OpenStreetMap and can reach deeper admin levels (up to level 12) in well-mapped regions. GADM offers more consistent global coverage but may not be as current in rapidly changing administrative areas.

What admin level should I use?

Level 0 gives countries, levels 1–4 typically cover states/provinces and districts, while levels 5–12 reach municipalities, neighborhoods, and suburbs. Choose the shallowest level that meets your needs for smaller file sizes.
