Buffer Points, Lines & Polygons Online

Draw a distance zone around a route, location or area, or inset a polygon for an approximate setback.

Loading the local file tool…

How to use this tool

  1. 1. Choose your geometry file.
  2. 2. Enter meters: positive to expand, negative to inset polygons.
  3. 3. Run, inspect the result and download GeoJSON.

Limits and checks before sharing

  • Uses Turf buffer with 8 steps per quarter circle and a local projection approximation; unsuitable for legal or survey-grade setbacks.
  • Negative distances require polygon input and can erase small polygons. Empty outputs are reported.
  • GeometryCollection members become separate output features, each retaining the source attributes and ID.
  • Large-area, dateline and polar geometry needs desktop GIS. This is a distance buffer, not a driving-time area.

If processing fails, check the file extension and source contents. Use a smaller batch if memory runs low. The original files are never overwritten. Inspect known locations and attributes before sharing a result.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a radius or driving map?

A buffer follows uploaded geometry. A radius map draws circles around a center. A driving map uses a road network and travel time.

Are my files uploaded, and do I need an account?

No. This file operation runs in your browser and needs no account or payment. The page and processing libraries need an initial network load. Opening a map preview can request external map tiles; linked resources in your original KML are not fetched or embedded by this tool.
